HPI RC Cars and TrucksMy first experience with an HPI rc car was very good. Fast, good design and very durable. I think it is in the material they use. From a small company back then, starting primarily in on-road, HPI Racing is now well known for the HPI Savage (25, 4.6, X) monster trucks. It seems their strategy is to produce an electric and nitro powered version of a particular model. For example: 1/8 Savage Flux 2350 with Alphastar 2350Kv brushless motor. 1/8 Savage X 4.6 with a Nitro Star F4.6 (2.9hp) nitro engine. I think it is a good strategy. HPI is also prolific in releasing new models to keep us excited. In 2011 alone HPI RC released over 15 new models. Their electric ready to run (rtr) models now use the Flux motors and esc for 1/10 scale. And the Alphastar 2350KV and Q-Base ESC can handle up to 14.8volts for 1/8 scale. Speeds of over 40mph with a 3s lipo. In nitro, it is primarily 1/8 buggy, monster and stadium trucks powered by the Nitro Star line of engines ranging from 2.2hp to 2.95hp. HPI also pioneered the 1/5 scale gasoline powered Baja buggies and short course trucks. These run on regular unleaded gasoline mixed with 2T oil. Run times of over 30 minutes per tank. Economical to run. Then there is the mystery 1/8 gasoline powered rc truck scheduled to be released in 2012. This will be a first. Smaller scale but gasoline powered... just what I would love to buy.
