Tamiya Asia Cup 2010

The 2010 Tamiya Asia Cup (TAC) was held on 10 - 12 September in SM Megamall, Manila Philippines. The best drivers from 7 Asian countries joined in the 13th running of this yearly rc car racing event sponsored by Tamiya Corporation. Below are pictures and videos.

10 September (Friday) - Day started with the Concours RC Car body beauty contest. Team Philippines won 4 out of the 5 categories.

Then there were 3 runs of 10 minutes open practise and 2 runs of 5 minutes controlled practise. Below is a view of the rc track inside a mall.

11 September (Saturday) - Here is where the excitement begins. We have 6 qualifying run attempts in order to get the best position on the grid and get into the A-main. I managed to qualify 4th while my daughter, who just started a few months ago was in a good 15th place. Competition is tough and differences between me and my daughter were only a few tenths of a second per lap.

As a side event, Tamiya Racing Factory driver Jilles Groskamp (2009 European Touring Car Champion) made an open invitation for any challengers to race with him. My daughter readily took the challenge in her pink Tamiya M05 mini r/c car.

Tamiya TRF Driver versus 9 Year Old Girl

12 September (Sunday) - The most exciting day. Triple A-main and single B-main races in the Junior Stock, Super Stock, F1, Mini and GT racing classes. The A-main winners (except Junior Stock) would get a free ticket to Japan to compete in the 2010 Tamiya World Championships.

When the smoke cleared, Team Philippines won two classes. JP Reyes (GT) and Yuichiro Takaya (F1). Congratulations and hope they bring home the 2010 World Championship title in November.
